What is Carbon Monoxide?

Carbon monoxide is a very dangerous and highly poisonous gas that can be fatal when inhaled in large quantities, the most dangerous thing about it is the fact you can not see or smell the gas. This means that you could have a leak without even knowing until you start to notice the symptoms and the longer and more exposure you have to carbon monoxide the more severe the symptoms become leading to death if not dealt with quickly.

What to do if you suspect Carbon Monoxide Poisoning?

If you or anyone in your house hold starts displaying symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning you should immediately get some fresh air, open up the windows and doors of your home to allow fresh air to flow into the house. Make sure that all gas appliances are turned off and leave the house. You should then consult a doctor or go to a hospital so they can conduct a blood or breathing test to advise if you need any treatment.

Preventing Carbon Monoxide poisoning

When it comes to preventing Carbon monoxide poisoning the most important thing you can do is make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector in your home. These detectors are the only way you will be able to identify a carbon monoxide leak before it causes any serious illness. It is important to make sure that you get a detector that is certified as there are a large number of manufacturers that sell detectors that are not 100% reliable at detecting carbon monoxide. For this reason, it is important to have more than one detector in your home to increase your chances of detecting a possible leak.

It is also very important to have all of your fuel-burning appliances regularly maintained to ensure that they are always working as intended reduces the chances of a carbon monoxide leak in your house.
