When is the right time to buy a new boiler?

Boiler systems have an average lifespan of around 10 to 15 years so if you are coming up to the end of this time period it might be time to start looking for options.

But age might not be the only reason you need a new boiler below is a list of other reasons you might need to upgrade.

  • Moving the boiler system: You may be looking to move your boiler to another location of your house, this would result in the need for a new boiler as well as rewiring of the piping throughout your house
  • Low efficiency rating: Older boilers have a lower efficiency rating this can cause higher energy bills which in the long run maybe more expensive that a new boiler install itself
  • Renting your property: If you are looking to rent out your property it might look better to make a new modern boiler system installed
  • Beyond economical repair: Some major repairs to your boiler may end up costing a substancial amount due to parts no longer being wildly available this may make it more cost effective to get a new boiler system

What options do I have when getting a new boiler?

When it comes to the different options you have for a new boiler there are three different types of systems for you to get installed into your home combi boilers, system boilers and conventional boilers.

  • Combi boilers: Compact sized boiler designed for smaller homes that do not have loft space for a tank. These types of installs require less pipework and typically make the installation cost lower
  • System boilers: This boiler setup is suitable for homes with more than one bathroom, they do not require a loft tank which helps to save space and no need for feed or expansion cistern which makes them more efficient
  • Conventional boilers: This is a great choice for the typical home which experiences a high amount of water usage at the same time. This system requires cold water and hot water storage tank and is designed for houses with 2 or more bathrooms.

    Power flush

    Power flush

    Protect your central heating system

Having issues with your central heating? Radiator with cold spots? Slow warmup of heating? Is your radiator water discoloured? Is your boiler running overly noisy?

These could be signs up sludge and scale build-up in your system. A power flush could help to resolve these issues, clearing out your system and restoring its efficiency and preventing further damage or corrosion.

    Frequently Asked Questions

It will vary from house to house, but generally about 5+ hours for a three-bed house with a vented system, but less time for a sealed or combination boiler system, because you don’t have to cap off the cold feed and expansion piping.

No. You only need to run some water out of a vented system to lower the water level in the feed and expansion tank, so that you can cap it off.

You certainly can. In fact, you can ONLY power flush a sealed system.

Why do we say that? Because any system that you power flush must be sealed (even if that is for the duration of the power flush only in the case of a vented system).
